Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility Costs Tax Credit for 2013

As a Maryland Based Company you may be eligible for tax credits resulting from the construction of a SCIF during 2013. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility Costs Tax Credit

A business must provide amounts of qualified SCIF(s) costs for between 1/1/2013 and 6/30/2013, and between 7/1/2013 and 12/31/2013 separately. The business may claim a credit of 50% of the costs up to $100,000 for construction or renovation of a single SCIF, and up to $250,000 for multiple SCIFs costs incurred between 1/1/2013 and 6/30/2013. It may also claim an additional credit up to 50% of the costs up to $100,000 for construction or renovation of a single SCIF, and up to $250,000 for multiple SCIFs incurred between 7/1/2013 and 12/31/2013. The total tax credit claimed for SCIF(s) costs may not exceed $200,000 for a single SCIF and $500,000 for multiple SCIFs. For more information go to:

SCIF Window Criteria

 

1. Every effort should be made to minimize or eliminate windows in the SCIF,

especially on the ground floor

• Facilities that have first floor windows:  SD window technolgy comes in 3 forms; surface applied film for existing windows; glass and polycarbonate for new construction.  SD has an additional layer of security for the deployments of wireless technologies; protection against Thermal Imaging and Night vision devices; physcial security, specifically glass fragmentation control.

2. Windows shall be non-opening.

3. Windows shall be protected by security alarms in accordance with Chapter 7 when

they are within 18 feet of the ground or an accessible platform.

4. Windows shall provide visual and acoustic protection.

5. Windows shall be treated to provide RF protection when recommended by the CTTA.

Ron Waranowski, Partner & President of SD, representatives from KCI Protection Technologies & Wilhelm Commercial Builders were guest speakers at the Howard County Chamber of Commerce 4.01 Cyber Conference, May 29, 2013.  The speakers elaborated on the various ways cyber criminals can compromise a businesses security posture and offered solutions for protecting electronic information and private conversations. 

 

Mr. Bartko, special assistant for cyber to the director of the NSA, was the keynote speaker at the security conference.  In his message he said "Intellectual property, private information, and even consumer items like music, movies and airline tickets are all kept and moved electronically. As a result, cyberspace is under constant attack from individuals and groups that steal information, disrupt businesses and government agencies and even destroy electronic systems and equipment.
