Emerging Wireless Risks To Consider

With the increase use of wireless technologies and BYOD to work comes more security concerns and real security risks ....  Information stealing, privacy issues, loss of Intellectual Property that can cause companies to lose everything.  Signals Defenses brings the Secure Work Environment - Attenuating the RF/IR signals that penetrate the workspace, thus mitigating the exfiltration of sensitive information.

ICD 705 : Signals Defenses Window Protection

ICD 705 - For Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities

SCIF Window Criteria

1. Every effort should be made to minimize or eliminate windows in the SCIF,
especially on the ground floor
  • Facilities that have first floor windows:  SD window technolgy comes in 3 forms; surface applied film for existing windows; glass and polycarbonate for new construction.  SD has an additional layer of security for the deployments of wireless technologies; protection against Thermal Imaging and Night vision devices; physcial security, specifically glass fragmentation control.
2. Windows shall be non-opening.
3. Windows shall be protected by security alarms in accordance with Chapter 7 when
they are within 18 feet of the ground or an accessible platform.
4. Windows shall provide visual and acoustic protection.
  • SD offers products & services that give you visual privacy and sound testing (STI, NIC, RASTI)
5. Windows shall be treated to provide RF protection when recommended by the CTTA.
  • Signals Defenses (SD) provides: Patented Radio Frequency (RF)/ Infrared (IR) eavesdropping mitigation for windows. SD is the de facto and written standard performance for U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.  Signals Defenses has a retired, DOD, CTTA on staff for Design, Build, Support, Consulting and Testing Services.

6. All windows less than 18 feet above the ground or from the nearest platform
affording access to the window (measured from the bottom of the window), shall be
protected against forced entry and meet the standard for the perimeter.

  • SD window technolgy can be laminated in ballistic, UL Levels 1-8; thus providing FEBR, RF/IR attenuation

Electronic Eavesdropping Devices. History And Widely Spread Types

The Electronic Eavesdropping techniques have become more readily available due to the low cost of the technologies and the unintended consequences of wireless deployments.  These vulnerabilities include RF/IR attacks; and the suite of vulnerabilities associated with TSCM "Technical Surveillance Counter-Measures".   Wireless technologies provide many benefits, however, they come with significant security concerns.

Signals Defenses technology has been the de facto and written standard for the U.S. DoD since 1999.
